Hands On Biology

About

Teacher:  Vanessa Kinsala
Class Supply Fee:  TBD
Registration Fee:  $25 per student

Registration and further details will be posted soon!

Student groups will build and create models of body systems or organs (for example, the heart, the digestive system, the cell, the skeletal system, the brain, the respiratory system).

Class elements: a brief overview video of the organ; a handout with labels and drawings of the organ; an instruction sheet outlining the required elements of the model; and crafting supplies.  Student groups will be shown a 3D model of an organ, given a sheet outlining the required elements for their model, and then given creative freedom to build their own model using the supplied materials. Materials will be wide-ranging, encouraging students to use their creativity to be innovative while also having fun! After the models are built, students will present their models with a one- to two-sentence explanation of each required element of the build that they researched using their phones or supplied textbooks.  To keep things interesting, some classes will not have a build but instead will include a series of simple experiments that parents usually don't want to do at home! Some examples might be testing for vitamin c, mentos and diet Coke, or baking soda reactions. The work will be limited to labeling diagrams and recording observations. There will be little to no homework for this class.
