Allergies, Allergens, and Sensitivities Policy

Allergies and Sensitivities

Many students with allergies and sensitivities have attended Planet Homeschool over the years without experiencing allergy-related problems: it is definitely possible for families to make PHS work for their students. However, PHS is not an allergen-free environment.

Families are responsible for managing their students’ allergies while at PHS, including arranging with instructors for accommodations in classes. Families should also communicate with anyone else (including other PHS families) who could help maintain a safe environment for their students.

If a student is not able to manage an allergy independently or is at high risk of a severe reaction, a parent or guardian should plan to stay onsite while the student attends classes.

If you have more questions or need help, please reach out to our co-op’s Lead Volunteers at PlanetHomeschoolMN@gmail.com.

Fragrance Policy

Planet Homeschool asks all instructors, students, parents, visitors, and volunteers to avoid using scented products on days when you are onsite.

Fragrances and scents are found in a wide range of products including perfumes, aftershaves, deodorants, soaps, air fresheners, fabric softeners, and laundry detergents. The chemicals from these products are shared as they vaporize into the air. For people with asthma, allergies, migraines, or chemical sensitivities, exposure to scented products may trigger asthma attacks, anaphylactic reactions, or shortness of breath. These products can also cause headaches, sore throat, sinus congestion, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, anxiety, anger, difficulty concentrating, and other symptoms.

If you must use fragrances or scented products, please do so sparingly. The scent should not be detectable more than an arm’s length away from you.

Thank you for your cooperation and kindness!
